Edward Lucas is a Times columnist and Center for European Policy Analysis (CEPA) senior fellow who has been writing about European and transatlantic security since the 1980s. His foreign correspondent postings include Berlin, Prague, Washington, DC, the Baltic states, and Moscow, where he was bureau chief for the Economist. In 2007, his book, “The New Cold War”, warned of Russia’s trajectory towards repression at home and aggression abroad. In his talk, he will reflect on a career reporting on Russia and Eastern Europe and consider the roots of the war in Ukraine, arguing that Western greed, naiveté, and arrogance enabled the rebirth of Russian imperialism.
