While freedom of the press in Russia was heavily restricted prior to the invasion of Ukraine, restrictions have since reached a new level, with previously tolerated news outlets shuttered and severe penalties introduced for any deviation from the official line. Nevertheless, the last vestiges of the independent media have continued to work even in these draconian conditions, and to continue to get the truth out inside Russia. In her talk, Russian journalist Yulia Mineeva tells us their story.
Yulia Mineeva was head of the news desk at the award-winning Novaya Gazeta from 2015 to 2020. She holds a journalism degree from the Moscow State University of Printing Arts and a master's degree in interactive and digital journalism from City University of London, where she was a Chevening scholar.
